Alfonso Faustino: Tony’s Pizza Napoletana & Slice House

I visited Tony’s Pizza Napoletana and Slice House, located in San Francisco’s North Beach district.  I grabbed a seat at the bar. The people working there are so friendly and helpful. They are engaging and welcoming.

I ordered their potato and quail egg pizza; and, it was amazing. It is a thin crust pizza; and, the crust is just perfect — firm and slightly chewy — it’s not a sloppy wet thin crust — this crust has substance — and full of flavors. The crust is slightly charred from the wood oven; and, that adds a nice flavor. The sauce doesn’t seep through the crust like other thin crust pizzas, which is a major turn-off for me.

The marinara sauce is high in quality and full of flavors — not tangy nor acidic.

All the ingredients of this pizza, the lightly spread cheese, the quail egg, the pork cheek, the pepperoni, and the feta cheese all played well together and complimented each other as they sat on top of the crust and marinara sauce — not one ingredient over-powered the other — they all complimented each other; and, it was truly and epicurean delight.

They present a great menu; and, you will definitely find a pizza that you will call your favorite, and make it your signature pizza.

If you prefer a slice of pizza, the slices are really big, then go next door and hit Tony’s Slice House Pizza — it’s better than any New York City pizza I ever had — for me, a good pizza is about the crust and the sauce; and, Tony knows the perfect blended sauce and perfect crust, which he uses for all his pizzas.
